Visit and Cooperation Activities Conducted Between September-December 2025

Within the scope of visits aimed at cooperation with institutions and organizations by the Turkish Navy - Office of Navigation, Hydrography, and Oceanography (TN-ONHO) during the September–December 2025 period:

1. Official Visits and Participation

Visits were conducted by Rear Admiral (Lower Half) Prof.Dr. Fatih ERDEN, Director of the Office of Navigation, Hydrography, and Oceanography – Turkish Navy (TN-ONHO), to:

Prof.Dr. Nafiz ARICA, Rector of Piri Reis University, on September 30, 2025;
Prof.Dr. Burcu ÖZSOY, Director of TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center (TÜBİTAK-MAM) and TÜBİTAK-KARE, on October 8, 2025;
Prof.Dr. Hasan MANDAL, Rector of Istanbul Technical University (ITU), and Prof.Dr. Cenk YALTIRAK, Director of ITU Marmara Active Fault Hazard and Risk Application and Research Center (ITU-MATAM), on October 10, 2025.

On December 23, 2025, participation was rendered in the TÜBA–TÜBİTAK Science Awards Ceremony, where the "First Turkish Antarctic Navigational Chart" was presented to His Excellency the President by Minister of National Defense Yaşar GÜLER and Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih KACIR. This chart was presented as a collage composition prepared with the vision of "In the same line with the past," alongside the Piri Reis World Map dated 1513.

Admiral Metin ATAÇ, 22nd Commander of the Naval Forces and Member of the Board of Trustees of Piri Reis University, on December 4, 2025;
Prof.Dr. Burcu ÖZSOY, Director of TÜBİTAK Polar Research Institute (KARE), and staff members of TÜBİTAK KARE, on December 8, 2025.

3. Meetings and Coordination

Meetings regarding the activities of the Navigation, Hydrography, and Oceanography Services Planning and Coordination Board (BOARD (KURUL in Turkish)) were hosted on November 12 and 13, 2025, with the participation of BOARD members.

The National Marine Research Expedition Planning Meeting was executed on December 16, 2025, under the coordination of the BOARD Secretariat.

4. Cooperation Protocols and Information Exchange

Within the framework of aforementioned visits:

Cooperation Protocols were signed between ONHO and ITU-MATAM on October 3, 2025, and between ONHO and TÜBİTAK KARE on December 8, 2025.
An exchange of information was conducted regarding potential joint projects to be undertaken in cooperation with the relevant institutions and organizations.

Participation was rendered in the 18th NATO Military Oceanography (MILOC) Panel Meeting between November 26–27, 2025.
Participation was rendered in the NATO Military Meteorology (MILMET) Working Group Meeting between December 17–19, 2025.
The NATO Geospatial Maritime Working Group (GMWG-25B) Meeting was conducted between December 08–12, 2025, hosted by our country and under the coordination of the ONHO-TN.
